ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s first Communications Satellite PAKSAT-1R, as a part of Pakistan’s Space Programme 2040, was launched on Thursday at 2117 hrs on board China’s Satellite Launch Vehicle from the Xichang Satellite Launch Centre.

Besides others, launch was witnessed by Secretary Defence Lt Gen Syed Athar Ali (R), Secretary Foreign Affairs,    Salman Bashir, Director General, Strategic Plans Division Lt Gen Khalid Ahmed Kidwai (R) and Ambassador of Pakistan to China, Muhammad Masood Khan, said a press release issued here.

PAKSAT-1R has a total of 30 transponders, 12 in C-band and 18 in Ku-band.

The satellite will be deployed at 380E in the Geo-stationary orbit and it will replace the existing satellite PAKSAT-1.

PAKSAT-1R has a design life of 15 years and will provide TV broadcasting, Internet and data communication services across South and Central Asia, Eastern Europe, East Africa and the Far East. This satellite now enables extending of communication services to all areas of Pakistan.

The National Command Authority (NCA) recently approved Pakistan’s Space Programme 2040 during its meeting at the Strategic Plans Division (SPD) on 14 July 2011.

Earlier, the contract for the development of PAKSAT-1R was signed between Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) and China Great Wall Industry Corporation (CGWIC) in October 2008 during the visit of the President of Pakistan to China.

Pakistani engineers have worked closely with their Chinese counterparts during all stages of development of the satellite in China. Some experimental units developed at SUPARCO have also been integrated on the satellite for technology evaluation.

China and Pakistan have enjoyed more than 20 years of cooperation in Space Science, Technology and Applications.

The launch of Paksat-1R Satellite is a major milestone for both countries towards strengthening of this cooperation.

SUPARCO will continue its efforts for launching of other satellites including Remote Sensing Satellites, to ensure that the space technology applications fully contribute to socio-economic development and national security in Pakistan.

LAS VEGAS, Nevada — Amir Khan captured the International Boxing Federation's light welterweight title with a dominating fifth-round knockout of Zab Judah.

Khan on Saturday hit Judah with hard right hand in the midsection and the American veteran crumpled to the canvas at 2:47 of the fifth round of the 140-pound unification bout at the Mandalay Bay hotel and casino.

"I am beating everyone. Bring on the next challenge," Khan said.

The 24-year-old Khan already owned the World Boxing Association light welterweight belt, and now adds Judah's IBF title to his resume.

Judah, who was a 5-1 underdog, stayed down on his knees as referee Vic Drakulich counted him out.

The 33-year-old Judah acted surprised when Drakulich stopped the fight as his record dropped to 41-7 with 28 KOs.

Khan dominated Judah who was bleeding from his nose and cuts to his face at the beginning of the final round.

Olympic silver medalist Khan, 24, raised his record to 26-1, 18 KOs as he landed three times more punches, 61-20.

Khan, who is trained by world-renowned boxing guru Freddie Roach, said they had the perfect game plan.

"We trained hard. Freddie Roach is the doctor," Khan said. "He gave me a game plan that worked because every punch I threw was hitting him on the chin.

"We knew Zab would be tricky. We wanted to be one step ahead of him. We slowly took the backhand away from him and as soon I did that all my shots were hitting him. I was not tired, I was pacing myself."

Judah was outpunched consistently in the middle of the ring and was behind on the judge's scorecards when he got knocked out with a body shot. But he claimed the fight shouldn't have been stopped because the knockout punch was a low blow. Khan didn't agree.

"He was open for a right hook," said Khan, who threw 284 punches compared to just 115 for Judah. "It was above the belt, nowhere near below the belt."

Judah said he stayed down thinking the referee was going to give him some time to the recover from the punch and was shocked when the eight count ended and the fight was over.

"That was clearly a low blow when ref started counting I thought he was giving me time to get up," said Judah.

After watching a replay of the knockout in the middle of the ring, Judah reiterated that the punch was below the belt.

"It is self explanatory. When (Drakulich) said it was over I couldn't believe it."

Judah was brought in as a replacement after Khan couldn't work out a deal to fight American Timothy Bradley, who holds the World Boxing Council belt.

Khan said he is more confident than ever of beating Bradley when they step in the ring.

"I think he (Bradley) is scared," Khan said. "If he was the champ that he says he is then he would have faced me a long time ago. Zab is a better fighter than Bradley."

Germany: Billed as a global first, a laptop allowing users to open files, play music and view pictures using just the power of their eyes was turning heads Wednesday at the CeBIT, the world’s top tech fair.
The otherwise unremarkable laptop integrates cutting-edge “eye tracking”technology by Swedish firm Tobii that follows the movement of the user’s eyesand allows him or her to operate menus and select icons.
The prototype is also good for the environment as it recognises when you are not looking at it and automatically goes into screen saver mode, saving energy, Tobii says. It restarts as soon as the user glances at the monitor again.
“It’s definitely going to be in the laptops of the future,” said Anders Olsson from Tobii. “You can do pretty much anything you would do with your normal laptop.

Pakistan appears to be building a fourth military nuclear reactor, signalling its determination to produce more plutonium for atomic weapons, a US-based think-tank said.
The Institute for Science and International Security (ISIS), a think-tank specialising in nuclear proliferation issues, said it had obtained commercial satellite images from mid-january.
They showed “what appears to be a fourth reactor under construction at Pakistan’s Khushab nuclear site,” ISIS experts David Albright and Paul Brannan said in the Feb. 9.
“Pakistan is determined to produce considerably more plutonium for nuclear weapons.”
Pakistan’s mission to the Vienna-based International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the UN nuclear watchdog, was not immediately available for comment.
Pakistan has made clear its opposition to global talks to ban future production of nuclear bomb-making material, arguing that existing stocks of plutonium and enriched uranium should be included to counter India’s advantage.
India is believed to hold about 100 warheads and Pakistan 70 to 80, according to the Washington-based Arms Control Association

The world will run out of Internet addresses “within weeks”, according to one of the founding fathers of the web.
Vint Cerf, who helped create the web by connecting computers using Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, said it was his “fault” that the 4.3 billion addresses created were running out, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.
“I thought it was an experiment and I thought that 4.3 billion would be enough to do an experiment,” Cerf, who is Google’s vice president and “Chief Internet Evangelist”, was quoted as saying in an interview.
In 1977, Cerf created the web protocol IPv4, which connects computers globally, as part of an experiment while working with the US Department of Defense. He said he never expected his experiment “wouldn’t end”.
“It doesn’t mean the network stops, it just means you can’t build it very well,” Cerf said.
IP addresses are the unique sequence of numbers assigned to each computer, website or other internet-connected devices. They are not the same as website domain names.
The overwhelming number of devices now accessing the internet means the addresses are running out fast.
To resolve the crisis, an updated protocol for the Internet, IPv6, currently being planned by the industry, will create trillions of addresses.

The High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program (HAARP) is an ionospheric research program jointly funded by the US Air Force, the US Navy, the University of Alaska and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).
With the help of HAARP, environmental conditions can be altered to a massive level. Continuous rains bringing FLOODS and even EARTHQUAKES can be brought in the scenario.
